Medical records are essential components in the effective management of the patients’ health care. The medical records department contains information needed to plan, decision making, provide and evaluate the care given to the patient. It serves as a tool for communicating information to all health personnel who deal with the patients and contributes to the continuity of patient’s care.

To establish a conducive and sustainable working environment that will allow staffs to perform competently at their relevant levels and aspire for attainment of higher knowledge, skills and attitudes in promoting health, preventing diseases and caring for clients in all settings
DEPARTMENTAL VISION STATEMENT
To have competent Health Records and Information Technology personnel who will provide health Records and information services effectively at different health and non-health care settings and cope with existing and emerging health issues.
The department comprises of five (5) Sections as follows;
Master patient index
Promote professional ethical practice and medico-legal aspects of health records and information.
Steer creativity and innovativeness in response to challenges inherent in health records and information management practice and health care delivery.
Promote a culture of teamwork and build critical thinking and problem-solving skills in Health Records and Information Technology and health and non-health care practice.
Use ICT for promoting evidence-based practice in health records and information systems.
Promote a good sense of citizenship, accountability and responsibility to graduates.
Stimulate life-long learning behavior for health records personnel and advancement of health records and information technology profession.
Initiate epidemiological, research and demographic principles in healthcare delivery.
Organize health records and coordinate health information system.
Provision of highest standard health services for both Tanzanian citizens and non-Tanzanian citizens.
Promote good learning environment for students and subordinates.
